I love summer. Its my favorite season I’m actually a November baby but there is nothing I love more than the warm sun and not wearing a heavy jacket. Everything about summer is exciting to me. The fact that people tend to gather more when the weather is warm is all the reason to make it happen during these hot days and warm nights. If you’re like most adults, much of your summer was spent working and trying to squeeze in bits and pieces of having a life. If you’re like me and you’re summer has been all work and a little play, then you need to end it with a bang. Here’s a few things that you can do it in the closing weeks of the season to feel like your summer was not a total bust.
1) Take a day trip- I don’t know about you all but any day that I’m doing what I want to do instead of what I have to do is a good day for me. I love having a day off from work and being somewhere, creating new memories. A day trip is a great way to get away from the norm and gain some new experiences. The best way is to pick a place about 2-3 hours away from home and take the drive, bus or train. Not only are you in a new place with tons of possibility but you aren’t too far from home which make traveling easy and more convenient. Budget? No Problem! Check out Groupon or Living Social for food and fun deals in the area you’re visiting.
2) Have a beach day- There is nothing that says relaxing fun like the beach. My favorite thing to do on the beach is read with a cool drink in my hand followed by a quick nap under the umbrella while listening to the wave crash around me. Its a great way to end a long and grueling season. You’re enjoying a warm day, tanning, and getting yourself ready for another season ahead. If you want to add to the fun, pick a beach with a fun boardwalk and invite a few friends along to help you celebrate life.
3) Host a BBQ- I’m not sure if anyone would really pass up the chance for food and drinks. This is a way to have your friends and family in one place to enjoy being with each other over some good eats and refreshing beverages. Everyone loves a good bbq and its a summer staple that should happen every chance you get. Can’t host you own? Collaborate with a friend. There is strength in numbers and someone else may have just what you need to make your idea a success.
4) Find a Cultural, Street, or City Festival- The key to enjoying the closing weeks of summer is to be outdoors. Festivals are a great way to gain a new experience while meeting new people and enjoying the sun on your skin while you have it. Whether it’s for music or food, festivals rarely disappoint. There are so many things to do, you”ll be glad you went. Check out your city websites to see what’s in your area. Google is everyone’s best friend.
Although some of us might be sad, mainly me, that summer will be over soon, its a great thing that there’s still so much you can do. Whatever you do and however you do it, please make sure that you’re responsible and safe. Fun is better that way.
