It’s finally 2016. We don’t have any flying cars (that I know of), robots aren’t ruling the world (yet!), and we still make most meals ourselves. We haven’t gotten that Willy Wonka “meal in gum” deal down yet. Nevertheless, it’s a new year. Of course we have our typical goals and themes for the year like fitness, finances, and prosperity but there has to be something different about this particular time in our lives. Truth is, by March, all of the “resolutions” you have in January start to fade and you get relaxed in you. You may be screaming “New Year, New Me” but reality says “Same stuff, different day.” We are set in our ways. It’s time to lose that.
There’s nothing wrong with being the same ol’ you. If you love who you are, then who’s saying you need to change. The purpose of life is to be happy with yourself. However, there are things about you that may need an improvement. You don’t need a new year to change some things about you. All you need is a new mindset. You have to change your mind in order to change your habits. The New Year doesn’t automatically invoke change and new beginnings but it makes you think and want more. The traditions of bringing in the New Year with your house clean, certain foods on the table, and kissing a special someone at midnight does not mean throughout the year your home won’t get messy, your fridge will stay stocked and you’ll be madly in love. We do those things as a preparation and good measure but unless you keep that positivity, your year will follow those before it. Do yourself a favor and do better. You know better. Why not be better?
