Summer Skin Remedies

Summer time is a favorite season all around. Its a time to be outdoors, enjoy a cookout, beach day, outdoors concert, movie in the park and a whole host of different activities that soothe the soul. Although we may like the summer and all it has to gives us, like anything else, it comes at a price. The Heat! The heat can take a major toll on our skin. From the sweat and dirt clogging our pores to random heat rashes and drying effect on our lips, skin can take a beating during this beautiful season. Here’s a few ways that we can beat the heat….for our skin!

1) Baking Soda- Baking soda has amazing health benefits for inside and outside of the body. The inside is a story for another day. However, the face and even hands can benefit from a baking soda paste. Baking soda has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties that help your body get rids of all the gun By mixing equal parts of baking soda and water, you can make a paste. Apply the paste to your skin and let it sit for about 2 minutes. After, rinse with cool water. By doing this, the paste will clear the pores in your face while softening and exfoliating. Be sure to apply your favorite moisturizer after.

Bonus: If you’re doing this before bed, try pure shea butter as a moisture. It gets rid of dark marks

WARNING: Be careful how often you use baking soda. While the health benefits are great, excessive use can cause serious damage to the skin.

2)Water- This seems like a no brainer but this has to be stressed. Water is a serious necessity in extremely humid weather. Keeping hydrated helps in every way possible. It keeps your body cool, prevents dry mouth, keeps muscles and joints lubricated and cleanses toxins from the body. Water has so many benefits and we need them all.

Also, taking a cold shower after excess sweating helps to keep the skin unclogged. So the next time you’re going hard having a volleyball contest at the beach, be sure to take a cool shower after.

Need to drink more water? Try it infused! Lemon and Orange are great summer time flavors. Slice it up and let it sit in water for about 15 minutes before enjoying!

3) Melon- Melon is an awesome way to stay cool and hydrated while also refreshed. Melons like Cantaloupe and Watermelon have antioxidants that help to hydrate the skin and boost your SPF. So, grab some sunscreen, the higher the spf the better and have some melon. Your skin will thank you later.

4) Watch dark spots- Dark Spots, also known as sun spots are the sun’s way of letting us know it’s gotten to us. Sun spots are pretty normal. However, if it changes color or size, you should consult a doctor. Do your best to be proactive about anything that may be potential skin cancer. We all love the sun but we shouldn’t risk our lives for it. Need to get rid of a dark spot? Try a spot corrector. On the high end, Clinique has a whole line of spot corrector and anti-aging creams. On the lower end, cocoa and shea butter work wonders for a dark spot. Both products will clear up over time.
