I swapped warm Lemon Water for Coffee for 7 days and here’s what happened:

Health and wellness should be a part of our daily lives. Looking great in our clothes, having flawless skin, and the latest in beauty is great but everything on the inside is important. I’m am all about looking good but feeling good is top of the list. I decided to swap lemon water for coffee for a week and that was one of the best decisions I made so far this year.

I read up on detox waters last year when I was trying to be active with my fitness. That is still a journey for me but I am doing my best to stay consistent. When I read about these waters, I noticed that lemon was at the top of the list of things to put in water. Apparently lemon flushes out toxins that make you feel sluggish and tired. If you do this on a daily basis, it’s supposed to make you feel more energetic, awake, and alert. I needed to be a part of that.

I love coffee and my problem is, I like it sweet. The different flavored creamers and all the sugar, is my favorite way of drinking it. I’m one of those people that are the warning of how not to make your coffee. I noticed how horrible I was making it so I ditched my creamers for vanilla soy milk and white sugar for honey. The taste wasn’t too bad but I couldn’t help but notice that I still didn’t feel as awake and alert as coffee was supposed to make you feel after a daily cup. I needed change and was determined to get some energy because I needed to function better.

Day 1

I sliced half a lemon and squeezed it into a to-go cup and also dropped the lemon in. I poured boiling water into the cup and made sure to put the lid on tight, grabbed the cup and out the door I went. I made sure it was cool before I took a sip and tried to do my best to down what was in the cup. Normally, I drink cool lemon water all day to keep me refreshed but drinking it warm was very different. I could taste how tart it was and it wasn’t as easy to drink. I did my best and I was able to get through a little more than half the cup. Through the day, I noticed that I wasn’t as tired but I contributed it to the fact that I had been moving nonstop all day.

Day 2

Same routine as the previous day and breakfast in hand. I knew that it would be a busy day and I really needed the energy. As weird as it felt, I drank the whole cup and kept moving. I felt like a machine. I was moving and I didn’t feel too tired and I was able to function without any other warm drink. Usually around 9pm, I’m at the point where I am ready to take a shower and get in bed and sleep through the night. This particular day, I was still up watching a show and not at all ready to call it a night.

Day 3

I had become used to the tart warm taste and pretty much welcomed it. I drank the lemon water with ease this day and sat in front of the computer and did some work. Th temp outside read 20 degrees so I wanted to make some tea to keep the  Although the tea was caffeine free, it seemed to slow me down a bit. I was awake and alert but not as energized. The warmth of the tea may have made me feel a little too cozy which is why I was feeling less than my best but this lemon water was really working for me.

Day 4

By day 4, I was feeling so good. I was energetic, awake, alert, and ready. I was able to get out of bed and wake myself up quicker than before. Also, I couldn’t believe how good I was feeling and I really wanted this to last. Day 4, I had a second cup of lemon water and it did more good than harm. I wasn’t over energized or super alert like when I drink coffee. Coffee always gives me the shakes if I have too much of it but not warm lemon water. It was still a hit, two cups in.

Day 5

I didn’t frown at the warm taste at all and I had come to like it quite a bit. I knew what this method was doing to me and I liked it. By this time, I was able to have other drinks after and still be able to function. I needed the high energy today because sleeping was a challenge the night before. As much as I wanted a cup of coffee, I did my best to stay with the method I had been trying for the past 4 days. I was determined to have two tall cups of warm lemon water and get myself awake and working.

After my two cups, I was pretty much good to go. It really amazed me that I was good enough to continue, awake. I wasn’t as alert as previous days which was to be expected because I was running on about 3 hours of sleep. However, I was doing better than I thought at the time. My skin was also pretty clear and hydrated.

Days 6 &7

The last two days were a breeze. I had great energy, was on point and productive. I was alert and vibrant and felt really good. Surely, I missed the taste of coffee but I loved the energy and health effects that the warm lemon water was giving me. The health benefits of the detox water were also great. I felt lighter in the body and I was ready to continue my journey at the gym. I’m really determined to shed some minor pounds this season and continue to feel good in my energy and productivity.

I haven’t quite given up my love for coffee but I feel like I can scale back a bit. Coffee has become one of those things that I could only have once or twice a week and only with soy milk and honey. You have to change what you’ve been doing if you want different results. I’m also very interested in seeing what this method can do for my skin. One day at a time and one thing at a time. I can do this. I’m more determined than anything.

Sincerely,

Candace Ray
